SHEER ZEBRA CURTAINS

What do you guys think about these sheer zebra curtains? I love the hot pink zebra bedding set and the funky bookcase headboard of the bed...but those curtain panels just don't fit with the decor in the rest of the room.

This is perhaps a perfect example of too much zebra print in a teen girl's bedroom. Maybe if they lost the scarf drape over the curtain rod and did something in white faux fur or made some cool tie backs rather than have them just hanging there like that then that would tie things together? I'm really not sure that would do the trick. Replacing the sheer zebra curtains with beaded curtains was mentioned and I kind of like that idea with this teen girls bedding set. What would you do? Would you keep the scarf or lose it and add accessories to bring the zebra print curtain panels more into line with the comforter set?

You might think that the colors in this Tweety Bird bedding set would leave little room for error or give you much choice in choosing curtains, rugs or a wall color for that matter. Anytime you venture out into comforter sets with wild or bright colors like this one, get ready to be bossed around by those same colors.

Fabric that is that bold is not ready to compromise nor is it very forgiving. Your stuff either matches or it doesn't. I can see lots of lime green and possibilities for turquoise blue but I believe that I'd let the yellow of the Tweety Bird bedding set stand alone rather than bringing in lots of Looney Tunes bedroom decorations or bright yellow and orange accent pieces. My flipflops aren't keeping my toes toasty these days! I’m faced with a difficult decorating decision; should I used cheap peace sign bedding sets when I can find them and fill the rest of the room with rare collectibles? Or should I choose one of the more expensive peace sign comforters and scale the cost of the girl’s bedroom decorations back to allow for what I spent on a high end, organic set?

I suppose that what REALLY has me in a quandary is whether or not the teenage girl whose bedroom I am decorating is into organic fabrics that make a social statement like hemp? After all, she did specifically request that her bedding set be decorated with peace signs. Or will plain, old cotton fabrics suit her needs? Once upon a time I had a client who was really insulted that I did realize that she would only use organically grown cotton bed linens so maybe I am over thinking this. Most of the teenage girls that want peace sign bedding sets are happy as can be so long as the colors in the bed in a bag are bright and funky and more importantly that there is enough money to buy some groovy peace sign art to decorate the walls of the room.

And frankly, some of the more expensive bedding collections are just not as colorful as the cheap bed in a bag sets. The queen size lime green and black peace sign bedding sets (or perhaps the one hot pink and black or even the purple and black would be best?) is just so much more in keeping with the mindset of the psychedelic days of the 60s and peace signs from that era. It's summer and time for bikinis, flip flops and cottages with a view of the ocean. Oh yeah, and it’s time to buy some cool, funky bed sheets for the kids. The reason for this is because chances are that it is very doubtful that your teenage girl will take the time to make her bed unless you make things easy for her. She will not want to be fiddling around with the comforter and accessories that came with the cute bed in a bag set that she just had to have this spring when there are surfboards to ride, ultraviolet rays to catch and cute beach bums to flirt with!

When I was a teen (I’m sure that you will be polite and not inquire as to how long ago that may have been) I knew that my mother would not let me out the door until my room was straight. If I wanted to avoid a lecture on how much money she had spent on my bedding set and decorating the bedroom, the best course of action was to go ahead and tidy up before I opened the door. I needed some tricks to get the job done as quickly as possible so as not to keep my friends waiting in the driveway and then a visiting girlfriend share the tip that she saved her best bed sheets until summer so that her bed looked nice without having to go to the trouble to layer comforters and coverlets.

I thought this was an excellent idea because it’s too hot to sleep under all that cover in my part of the country from April until September. So, after Easter I packed the quilt and most of the pillows in a space bag and pulled out some funky bed sheets (in my case hot pink polka dot bed sheets) that matched my bedroom's color scheme. So long as there were tight, hospital corners and no wrinkles my mom was happy and my friends were happy that they didn’t have to wait for me in a hot car for an hour.

PINK AND BLACK BEDDING for TEENS

So far as pink and black bedding for teenage girls that would be be perfect for teens and tweens, you have several fabric prints to choose from. Not many, but a few.

That's why you have to love the ingenuity that the manufacturer displayed when they rolled out not only a
pink and black comforter sets in zebra fabrics, but a patchwork quilt that incorporates hot pink faux fur blocks with black and white zebra.

The possibilities for such an eclectic design are rather interesting to say the least. The play of graphics one against the other brings me around to a retro, kind of Andy Warhol (if teens care to take a look at his art they will see what I mean) state of mind.

I'm not sure how I feel about mixing the less dramatic, watered down shades of pink as seen in the area rug in the example picture, but I have to give the funky, pink and black patchwork bedding set a positive review. This just goes to show that patchwork quilts are not necessarily country by nature.
