I love this set of turquoise and brown bedding called Julia that is designed by who else but Roxy bedding! I just had to share it with you in my blog before I’ve even got it delivered to the house where I'm decorating four bedrooms including one turquoise, brown and white bedroom which is now going smoothly after a minor glitch or two.

The teen girl in the family had the idea that she wanted to combine chocolate brown and white damask print fabric with a complementary solid or small patterned turquoise blue fabric (not aqua or Robin's Egg blue, but turquoise!) which would have been pretty but to make it happen would have meant shopping for bedding, curtain and upholstery fabric and then waiting for the seamstress to get around to actually making the items.
This was not a workable plan because of a sister’s wedding that is planned for less than a few weeks away so I pulled this set of white, turquoise and brown bedding out of my little bag of decorating tricks. This brown and blue comforter set is much less formal than what she had mentioned earlier. The brown and white print actually came from one of the tropical collections of Roxy bedding for girls but wonder of wonders, the patterns were not a big deal to her.

The chocolate brown and turquoise bedroom color scheme turned out to be more important so all is well and we will have all the bedrooms decorated in time to have the house looking great for the wedding!

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; aqua blue and brown bedding sets are a blessing to long suffering decorators looking for the best combination of earthy and cool, peaceful colors.

It would be impossible for me to say how many times the fabric that I recommended to a client was rejected because it was too busy or chaotic for the restful atmosphere that is desirable for an adult’s bedroom. So, how do we get the results that will appeal to both mother and daughter while operating within the color restrictions that the former laid out for us? For starters, I go shopping for an icy aqua blue and brown bedding set that is as far from anything that a grownup would want as possible. Gathering material for a layout of chocolate brown and blue fabrics covered with paisley, circles, dots and geometric prints to be sewn together in a patchwork quilt is one way to do it. Another is to broaden the range of colors to include some unusual accents in salmon pink and a few pops of white to break things up and draw attention to the bedding set. The rule of thumb for a bohemian bedroom with aqua blue and brown bedding sets or any color whatsoever is to expect the unexpected; in fact the more unique and unusual the better for this theme. But in my case, I have to run all decisions regarding decorations and fabric selection by mom as teens and preteens don’t have a good track record for considering the flow of the home’s decor when decorating their bedrooms.

Chocolate Brown and Aqua Blue Comforter Sets, Window Valances and Bedding Accessories

Chocolate and aqua window treatments and bedding sets would have been out of the question earlier in your teenage girl's years. While the modern decorating and color scheme rules have been relaxed by miles, dark browns and shades of blue in the not so distant past were classic ways to decorate a boy's bedroom (read: territory).

The door has opened for the sophisticated teen girl to enjoy this cute color combination. The only question is whether she would prefer her chocolate brown and aqua teenage bed in a bag comforter sets and decorative bedding accessories to have a fabric design of circles, squares or forego the geometric patterns completely in favor of solid colors or crisp, even stripes.

For instance, if there is a northern exposure, valances would be my choice of window treatment over full length curtains or draperies to make the most use of sunlight. BLUE and BROWN BEDDING WITH POLKA DOTS!

I couldn't resist including this set of blue and brown bedding covered in polka dots for the teen girl that inherited her mom's impeccable taste. Certainly it's more expensive than your run of the mill bed in a bag set. But as I haven't found anything to compare to the rich chocolate brown and blue in the cheap lines this slightly retro color combination is worth the few extra dollars. Why wait and take a chance on decorating your teen girl's bedroom with a less luxurious comforter and bedskirt set just because it's cheap?

I must confess that I'm not that crazy about the bedskirt they have shown in the pictures. Somehow it doesn't fit into my idea of the best colors to match the comforter and accent pillows. It seems to be an off white fabric with a band of brown at the hem. I believe that I would have opted for a solid color bed skirt with a crisp tailored box pleat over this plain piece with no decorative details.
I suppose you could figure out a way to embellish it with some cording to match the comforter, but I'm not sure that's the best way to proceed.

This blue and brown bedding set with polka dots is a relatively contemporary color scheme. Personally, the colors above are my favorites! If you teenager doesn't like it, indulge yourself. You deserve a pretty bedroom with elegant bedding too!
