The Waikato-raised youngster had a week earlier made his first class debut during the pre-season fixture against North Harbour. A precocious talent, Maitland was a member of the victorious New Zealand Under-19 side at the IRB Junior World Cup. He is an exciting attacking three-quarter who has impressed many good judges since he linked up with Linwood at the start of 2007. Claudelands will be a temporary campervan park for Rugby World Cup 2011 visitors. Hamilton City Council Event Facilities Manager Mark Christie said the temporary facility will be set up adjacent to The Grandstand, and cater for up to 300 campervans.

It will be open from 9am on 15 September to 4 pm on 19 September, coinciding with the New Zealand vs Japan and Wales vs Samoa matches at Waikato Stadium. It will reopen from 9am on 1 October to 4pm on 3 October, for the Wales vs Fiji match.

Campervans must show a self-containment certificate, as there will be no on-site power connections or showers. A small number of toilets, and limited water and power will be available in The Grandstand. There will be no cooking facilities. A dump station and recycling facilities will be provided, and there will be 24-hour security. Alcohol is permitted within the confines of vehicles, but guests are asked to behave responsibly.

“It’s great Rugby World Cup 2011 fans travelling in campervans can park so close to Waikato Stadium and the Fanzone. That will enable them to really enjoy what Hamilton has to offer without worrying about having to re-park their vehicles in the CBD or near the stadium,” said Councillor Peter Bos, Hamilton’s Rugby World Cup 2011 ambassador.

“Walking with your Rugby-mad friends through the city will only enhance your great Hamilton experience.”

Visitors using the Claudelands campervan park during Rugby World Cup 2011 are encouraged walk to Waikato Stadium, approximately 20 minutes away.

Despite claims Brett Favre has turned down the Minnesota Vikings and will remain retired, a new story has popped up claiming the deal is not dead. According to a story which originally seemed to emanate from ESPN sources, Favre had X-rays of his right shoulder (he has a partially torn biceps tendon) sent to the Vikings for evaluation. Supposedly he Vikings received the X-rays on Thursday for their doctors to evaluate. If Favre, who turns 40 in October, can return to play without major surgery, supposedly he is game but if not both sides will pretend it never happened.

Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, told ESPN he’s not aware of any X-rays being sent to the Vikings (of course maybe it was an MRI). In any case this new story may confirm Favre’s desire to compete again, particularly against his former team.
